Juggling has never been something I’ve really tuned into but, combine  one amazing juggler with the last song on the last Beatles album and you get something stunning.

Further to last week’s open letter to Gordon Brown on reducing food waste, here’s a very short video which nicely sums up Gordon’s pleading …..don’t throw it all away!

The Amazon is the largest river in the world by most measures and accounts for about 20% of the world’s total, river water flow. So you might go fishing or take a boat on this vast, gently flowing, expanse of water but, you couldn’t go surfing there, right?

Believe it or not, the Amazon has become a legend to surfing afficianados and surfing competitions are held there each year. 

Near the mouth of the  Amazon there a natural tidal bore, called the Pororoca, which is created when the leading edge of the incoming tide from the Atlantic forms a wave that travels up the river. The bore occurs, where the water depths are less than 7 metres (23 ft). The tidal bore starts with a roar, constantly increasing, and advances at the rate of 9-16 mph. 

At the interface between the river & the tide is a breaking wall of water from 5-13 ft high. The bore is the reason the Amazon doesn’t have a delta since, the ocean rapidly carries away the vast volume of silt carried by the Amazon, making it impossible for a delta to grow. It also has a very large tide sometimes reaching 20 feet (6 m) and has become a popular spot for river surfing…..as you can see in this video.

Thank you Ireland. The only EU country to exercise real democracy and vote on the European Union’s faux treaty. Let’s all dance for joy with Ireland that yet again the undemocratic commissars in Brussels have been defeated! When will they learn that lack of respect for this institution is due to Brussels lack of respect for its citizens. Did they really think that we believed this wasn’t the original defeated treaty by another name?

Wonderful research by Dr Crippen to illustrate the history of smoking via cigarette commercials of the last 50 years. Cigarettes were viewed as a pathway to fun & sex rather than lung & mouth cancers. How times have changed!

In Prime Minister’s Questions today, Gordon Brown let slip that he has a new best friend. She’s the mysteriously named “Alky Ada”. His slip came in response to a question on Afghanistan & terrorism. We all thought he would comment on the hunt for Al Quaida terrorists but he digressed to tell us about Alky Ada. The tabloids are already searching the drinking caves of Glasgow.
