Election Reporting: Super Sky but, Abysmal BBC

What do we pay our licence fee for?? You would think the one issue a publicly funded broadcast service would excel at is election coverage. I’ve never seen reportage of an election which sank so low in its assumptions about the intellect & concentration of the electorate/viewer. In particular, Jeremy Vine & his graphics seemed more like a production of Loony Tunes than coverage of what may well have been a seismic moment in British politics.

This was in contrast to Sky which was up to the minute, punchy and provided interesting historic perspective & current analysis (no I don’t have any connections to Sky… except my expensive subscription).

Back to the BBC…they appeared to be about an hour behind Sky’s reporting of winners & losers throughout the day. All in all it was probably one of their worst election performances ever.

Talking of Looney Tunes, the Road Runner cartoons always make me laugh & this video in particular reminds me of Gordon Brown’s desperate attempts to be popular. It seems, just like Wile E. Cayote, he’s always doomed to fail.
