Government Can’t Be Bovvered to Check Car Tax

April 14, 2008 · No Comments

Do you ever see either Traffic Wardens or,the Police checking tax & insurance at the roadside?  I suspect not because they are too busy doing important tasks like completing Government paperwork.

In response to a Parliamentary question, the Transport Minister revealed that your chances of being prosecuted for not taxing your vehicle hass declined from 1 in 6.5 in 1999/2000 to over 1 in 20 by 2006. The number of untaxed vehicles on the roads has almost doubled in the last decade and prosecutions have halved.

The total number of vehicles on UK roads is estimated to be over 33 million.

Once government turns a blind eye to auditing & checking of revenue raising activities like car tax it should be no surprise that more citizens take a punt by just “forgetting”.
