Moon Walking on a Football Pitch

April 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The first human to walk on the moon was Neil Armstrong, on July 21, 1969.  ‘Buzz’ Aldrin joined him on the surface, but neither walked very far.

In fact the lunar walk barely covered an area the size of a football pitch and certainly less distance than a Premier League footballer covers in 90 minutes on a Saturday afternoon (apparently several km)

This illustration of Armstrong & Aldrin’s moonwalk can be found HERE at the NASA history division website. The original NASA version can be enlarged for better viewing by clicking on it.

PS. Presumably the illustration is the dimension of a US football pitch rather than a “soccer” pitch
